Knives CPM-20CV steel
Knives made from CPM 20CV Steel. CPM 20CV steel is a top-tier stainless steel developed in the USA by Crucible Industries. It is manufactured using the modern Crucible Particle Metallurgy (CPM) method, which ensures a very fine and uniform microstructure with a regular distribution of carbides.
This steel is considered one of the best for knife making and is primarily used in luxury folding and fixed-blade knives, as well as in professional tools where exceptional edge durability and reliable corrosion protection are needed.
Thanks to its 20% chromium content, it is among the most corrosion-resistant stainless steels, and in combination with a high proportion of vanadium, it provides excellent wear resistance and long-term edge retention.
The steel hardness reaches approximately 59–61 HRC. A minor drawback is the difficulty in sharpening—it requires high-quality abrasive equipment, but the results are worth it. CPM 20CV is often compared to Böhler M390 and CTS-204P steels, as they all share very similar compositions and are classified as "super steels."
Steel composition: 1.9% carbon, 20% chromium, 4% vanadium, 1% molybdenum, 0.6% tungsten, 0.3% manganese, 0.3% silicon.
