Lapping stones
Flattening stones are designed for leveling the abrasive surface of your sharpening stones. Water stones, in particular, wear down unevenly during sharpening, resulting in irregularities and slight hollows. This reduces the quality of the sharpening process.
You can easily level your stones by flattening their surface using a harder flattening stone until a uniform plane is achieved.
